The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has claimed that the INDIA alliance rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan caused an estimated business loss of ₹11,000 crore in the city in a single day. The organisation, which had repeatedly written to Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi urging them to postpone the rally, says the event affected more than 20–22 markets across Delhi. According to CTI, around 2.5 lakh shops and factories remained closed, while transport and tourism-related activities were also disrupted. The organisation has questioned who will compensate traders for the alleged losses and demanded accountability for the economic impact. A report from ABP News highlighted that CTI’s earlier estimate of ₹10,000 crore has now increased to ₹11,000 crore. However, the INDIA alliance has previously rejected the organisation’s claims, alleging that CTI is politically motivated and has links with the BJP. The ₹11,000 crore figure and the number of affected businesses are CTI’s estimates and have not been independently established in the report. The controversy has added another dimension to the political debate surrounding the opposition rally.
