BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary during the meeting on Friday
KOKRAJHAR, Nov 7: The BTC Executive Council, at a meeting held at the Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat under the chairmanship of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, has resolved to expedite the distribution of land pattas to landless families and review land-related policies aimed at easing public access to land ownership.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Mohilary said that around 8,000 land pattas had already been distributed and that the remaining process would be completed within the next few weeks. He added that landless beneficiaries would receive pattas on payment of a nominal fee of Rs 101. The Council also decided to constitute a committee to examine the reduction of premiums imposed on land transactions.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects and discussed measures to strengthen governance, transparency and inclusive development across the Bodoland Territorial Region.
On the political front, Mohilary made it clear that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) would not support any renewed movement for a separate Bodoland State reportedly being considered by former members of the Bodo Volunteer Force.
He maintained that a fresh agitation could disturb the prevailing atmosphere of peace and harmony in the region and adversely affect the younger generation. While reiterating that the demand for Bodoland was not being rejected, he said present circumstances did not justify the launch of another mass movement.
The BPF leader observed that prolonged agitations often lead to social tensions, disruption of normal life and loss of educational opportunities for students.
Stressing that the people had entrusted the BTC administration with the responsibility of governance, he said maintaining peace and stability remained the foremost priority.
Meanwhile, Mohilary announced that the Ustad Kamini Narzary Memorial Cultural Festival would be organised at Halowadal Jijiri ground in Kokrajhar from November 7 to 9. He further informed that the ten-day Daojwng Festival would commence on January 11.
Among others, Deputy Chief of BTC Rihon Daimary and several Executive Members attended the meeting.
