The upcoming model will introduce the company’s next-generation hybrid technology and a fresh design language

Honda has released the first teaser of the new Avancier, an upcoming hybrid SUV expected to make its global debut on December 1, 2026. The new model is reportedly being developed as a seven-seater and will sit above the CR-V in Honda’s international lineup. It is expected to be manufactured in Thailand, with Australia and several Asian markets among its likely destinations.

The Avancier name isn’t entirely new. Honda first used it for an Accord-based station wagon sold in Japan between 1999 and 2003. The name returned in 2016 on a crossover SUV developed for the Chinese market. This latest model, however, appears to be a completely different vehicle, designed for a wider international audience.

The teaser keeps most of the SUV hidden, but there are a few interesting details. Up front, the Avancier gets slim LED daytime running lights with an animated lighting sequence. The main headlamp units appear to sit lower down, giving it a split-headlamp arrangement. At the rear, a horizontal LED light bar stretches across the tailgate and connects with vertical lighting elements at either end. The design creates a distinctive H-shaped signature, complemented by Honda’s new corporate emblem and Avancier lettering.

The SUV also appears to have a relatively long body, a sharply defined shoulder line and a sloping rear windscreen. Despite its large proportions, the overall silhouette looks more like a raised estate than a conventional boxy SUV. Reports suggest that the Avancier could measure approximately 4,960 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width and 1,690 mm in height. These dimensions are yet to be officially confirmed.

One of the more important details confirmed in the teaser is the new Honda Hybrid branding. The Avancier is expected to be among the first production models to use Honda’s next-generation hybrid system, which builds on the technology currently offered under the e name. The new system is expected to use a revised 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with electric motors. Reports also suggest that an electric all-wheel-drive setup could be offered, although Honda has not confirmed the powertrain configuration.

Honda has previously outlined plans to introduce 15 next-generation hybrid models globally by the end of March 2030. The Avancier appears to be one of the first products under that strategy. The new Avancier is expected to be positioned above the CR-V and compete internationally with SUVs such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Mazda CX-80.

Honda has not announced any plans to introduce the Avancier in India. With the model reportedly being developed for right-hand-drive markets and production expected in Thailand, an Indian launch cannot be ruled out, but there is no confirmation at this stage. More details about the SUV’s interior, hybrid powertrain and market availability should emerge at its expected December 1 unveiling.
